This page covers permits reviewed by the City of Miami in ePlan Review. Miami-Dade County and the other municipalities inside the county — Miami Beach, Hialeah, Coral Gables and the rest — publish their own naming conventions, so check which authority holds your permit before you rename anything.
The filename is the sheet number, nothing else
Miami's convention is unusually short: the file is named for the discipline designator and the drawing sheet number alone, in uppercase, with no spaces and no description — A-01.pdf, FA-03.pdf, CS-04.pdf. A ten-sheet drawing set is uploaded as ten files. The discipline designator carries the meaning, so getting it right matters more here than in jurisdictions that also include a sheet title.
Index sheets, extra buildings and inserted sheets
The drawing upload begins with an index page: A-0.pdf for Building, Fire and Planning & Zoning sets, C-0.pdf for Public Works right-of-way sets. With more than one building, the building number goes at the end (A-01-3.pdf is the first architectural drawing for building 3). A sheet inserted between A-1 and A-2 becomes A-1A, then A-1B. Calculations and applications are documents, not drawings — they may be multi-page and start from DOC-0.pdf.
Prescreen is where bad filenames surface
Improperly named files can be returned at Prescreen, before any reviewer looks at the drawings. Drawings must be PDF, unencrypted, landscape only — portrait is not accepted — and under 1 GB per file, with the upper-right corner left blank for the City's batch stamp.

- A drawing set with 10 sheets is uploaded as 10 separate files — one file per drawing sheet.
- The filename is the discipline designator plus the individual drawing sheet number: A-01.pdf, FA-03.pdf, CS-04.pdf.

- Multiple buildings: add a number for the building, e.g. A-01-3.pdf is the first architectural drawing for building 3.
- Revisions: resubmit the corrected drawing sheet under the originally uploaded PDF file name.
- Inserting a sheet between two existing ones uses letters: between A-1.pdf and A-2.pdf the new page is A-1A.pdf, then A-1B.pdf.
- Drawings: PDF only, not encrypted or password protected, landscape orientation only — portrait is not accepted. Maximum 1 GB per file.
- Documents such as calculations and applications are separate from drawings, may be multi-page, and start with a DOC-0.pdf index page.

Check these yourself
- Leave the upper-right corner of every plan sheet blank for the City's batch stamp: 2"x2" on 8.5"x11", 3"x3" on 11"x17", and 4.5"x4.5" on 24"x36", 30"x42" and 36"x48". Permit Prep never crops, resizes, moves or covers drawing content to create that space.
- Drawings must contain a scale. Permit Prep does not add, change or verify a drawing scale.
- Confirm the correct discipline designator for each sheet — the City's list governs, and Permit Prep cannot tell an FA sheet from an FP sheet for you.
- Confirm your index sheet is named A-0 or C-0 for the right permit type.
- Permitted plans used as the job-site copy must be printed at the size originally submitted.
What the source does not say
- The City's list of prohibited characters is given by example ("such as asterisks, parenthesis, periods, question marks"), not as a closed list. Permit Prep strips those plus anything unsafe for a filesystem and keeps letters, digits and dashes.
