Where the rules come from
Permit Prep splits and names plan sheets for a submittal anywhere in the US, but only two authorities have had their own published instructions read by a human: King County, WA and Portland, OR. Everything else is either a portal-family template — the common shape of that e-plan software, not a statement about what your building department requires — or your own naming pattern. Get the pattern from your building department's handout and enter it under Custom naming.

What this does — and does not do
- It splits a combined plan set into one PDF per drawing sheet and applies the naming pattern you choose.
- It copies page content — no cropping, rescaling, watermarking, flattening, or redrawing.
- It does not review code, approve permits, submit anything to a portal, or guarantee acceptance. Some requirements, such as clear stamp space, are listed as manual checks for you to verify.
- Certificate-signed or certified PDFs, encrypted PDFs, and PDFs with interactive form fields are not supported in this release.

How do I split construction plans into individual sheets?
Select your combined plan PDF in the Permit Prep workspace. It reads each page, proposes a sheet number and title, and produces one PDF per drawing sheet in a single ZIP.
How should permit drawing files be named?
It depends entirely on the authority. King County, WA publishes record number + sheet number + sheet title; Portland, OR publishes a three-digit order number + sheet number + description with a 50-character limit. Read your own building department's handout and enter that pattern.
Which permit portals are supported?
There are templates for the common e-plan systems — ProjectDox/Avolve, Accela Citizen Access, Tyler EnerGov/eTRAKiT, CityView, and email or counter submittals — plus fully custom naming. Only King County, WA and Portland, OR have had their published rules read; every other template is a starting point you should check against your own building department's handout.

No. Your plan PDF is read and split in your browser on your device. Sheet text, thumbnails, and filenames stay local.
